During an interview shortly before the Euro Disney Resort opened in 1992
the Walt Disney Company Chairman, Michael Eisner was asked to chose
which of the attractions created for the new park was his favourite.
After a little deliberation he choose Le Visionarium because of the
unique way the attraction combined Animatronics and 360-degree cinema to
tell a story.Le Visionarium is a surround cinema show, which takes guests for a journey, into the past and onto the future, from deep beneath the sea, to outer space, and more…. All in the matter of a few minutes. The adventure begins in the pre-show area, which is filled with all manner of pictures and models, many of which relate to occurrences in the main show, hanging from the roof are a collection of flying vehicles including model hot air balloons, planes and rockets. Also winding around the room above the heads of waiting guests is a large glass tube, which seems to carry a strange sparkling light. In order to speed the loading procedure of the main show the pre-show area is filled with the exact amount of guests that can be accommodated in the main auditorium. The pre show area is also used to introduce the 2 main characters and out line the story through a brief film. In the film (shown in French but with subtitles in English and other languages) guests meet "Timekeeper" a wacky robot inventor who is passionate about historic visionaries and scientist, he even sings a song about his favourites. Timekeeper then invites guests to view his latest experiment: a "time travel" machine, which will help to show them the past (with a little help from "Nine-Eye"). Nine-Eye is a wisecracking, hovering, female robot who is equipped with 9 cameras situated completely around her body which enable her to transmit a total surround view of her location. Timekeeper plans to send her back through time and transmit what she sees back to the guests in the 21st century. Once the explanation is over the real fun begins as the guests enter the main theatre. This circular room is fitted with 9 screens around the walls, which correspond with Nine-Eye’s camera’s to give guests a panoramic surround view. The main show is performed in French, with English and other languages via translation headphones throughout the auditorium. Controlling the proceedings from a platform at the far side of the room is Timekeeper in person. During the following 15-minute show, Nine-Eye is transported through time, from the past to the future, but as you might imagine, not all goes as planned. A brief meeting with Jules Verne (Timekeeper’s biggest hero) ends in disaster when he is inadvertently transported through time. To reveal any more would be unfair to future riders least to say there is stunning scenery, great music and a few laughs, Disney even manage to add a twist at the end of the story. Without a doubt, "From Time to Time" is the most elaborated and most amazing movie ever produced for the CircleVision-format, combining beautiful shots, a fantastic score, great special effects as well as an impressive cast and audio-animatronics. |

Resorts 1992 wurde Michael Eisner, Chairman der Walt Disney Company,
gefragt, welche Attraktion im neuen Park ihm am besten gefalle. Nach
kurzem Nachdenken antwortete er "Le Visionarium" auf Grund
dessen einzigartiger Kombination von Animatronics und 360°-Kino, um
eine Geschichte zu erzählen.Le Visionarium ist ein Rundumkino, das seine Gäste auf eine Reise von der Vergangenheit bis weit in die Zukunft, von den Tiefen des Meeres bis in die Tiefen des Weltalls und noch viel weiter mitnimmt... Und das alles in nur wenigen Minuten. Das Abenteuer beginnt bereits im Pre-Show-Bereich, das vollgestopft mit allerlei Bilder und Modellen ist. Von der Decke hängen mehrere Modell-Flugmaschienen wie Heißluftballons, Flugzeuge und Raketen. Auch zieht sich über den Köpfen eine lange Glasröhre, durch die immer wieder Lichter zucken. Im Preshow Bereich, der übrigens genau die selbe Anzahl an Besuchern fassen kann, wie das Haupttheater, werden außerdem die beiden Hauptfiguren sowie die Ausgangssituation der kommenden Geschichte dank eines lustigen kleinen Films dargestellt (der in französischer Sprache gehalten ist, aber englische, deutsche und italienische Untertitel anbietet). Hier treffen die Besucher erstmals "Timekeeper", einen abgedrehten Roboter und Erfinder, der eine Leidenschaft für die großen Visionäre, Wissenschaftler und Künstler der Vergangenheit hat, über die er sogar ein Liedchen zum besten gibt. Timekeeper lädt daraufhin die Anwesenden dazu ein, sein neuestes Experiment zu bestaunen: eine Zeitmaschine, die ihm helfen soll, die Vergangenheit darzustellen (mit ein wenig Hilfe von "Nine-Eye"). Nine-Eye ist eine charmante Roboterdame, die mit neun Kameras ausgerüstet ist, welche einen Ring um ihren Körper bilden, so dass sie eine kompletten Rundumsicht ihrer Umgebung übermitteln kann. Timekeeper plant, sie durch die Zeit zu schicken, um den Besuchern im 21. Jahrhundert zu zeigen, was Nine-Eye sieht. Nach dieser Einführung fängt mit Betreten des Haupttheaters der Spaß erst richtig an. Dieser runde Raum ist umgeben von neun Leinwänden, welche dank Nine-Eyes Übertragungen den Besuchern einen Rundumblick verschaffen. Die Show selber ist in Französisch, jedoch kann man per Kopfhörer, die im ganzen Saal angebracht sind, einen englischen, einen deutschen, einen italienischen, einen spanischen und einen holländischen Audiokanal wählen. Auf einer Plattform am Rande des Raums steht Timekeeper höchstpersönlich um das nun folgende zu kontrollieren. Während der 15-minütigen Show wird Nine-Eye quer durch die Zeit geschickt, von der Vergangenheit in die Zukunft, doch wie man sich denken kann, verläuft nicht alles nach Plan... Ein kurzes Treffen mit dem großen Visionär Jules Verne (Timekeepers persönliches Vorbild) endet in einem Desaster, als dieser versehentlich mit in die Zukunft / Gegenwart reist... Mehr zu verraten, wäre unfair. Es sei nur gesagt, dass atemberaubende Bilder, mitreißende Musik, sowie ein fantastisches Finale warten. Ohne Zweifel ist "From Time to Time" mit seinen wunderschönen Aufnahmen, der fantastischen Musik, den hervorragenden Special Effects sowie der beeindruckenden Besetzung aus Schauspielern und Audio-Animatronics der aufwendigste und erstaunlichste Film, der je für das CircleVision-Format produziert wurde. |

| Ever
since H.G. Wells wrote his famous first novel, "The Timemachine",
in 1895, time travell has become an essential part of modern
science-fiction. From countless episodes of "Star Trek" and
its various spin-offs to movies like "Terminator" and
"Back to the Future", time travell has been an entertaining
device to tell a fascinating story. At Disneyland Paris, the time travell shown in Le Visionarium's movie "From Time to Time" not only guides us from the age of the Dinosaurs, over the golden era of the renaissance to the time of great visionaries like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells himself, but is also the most "European" attraction found at the park. By presenting some of the greatest minds of the Old World and breathtaking shots of European landmarks (like the Swiss Alps, Moscow's Red Square and Bavaria's Castle Neuschwanstein as well as others), Le Visionarium is probably the one attraction, which influences the overall theme of Discoveryland as place of visionaries and as a place with strong ties to our continent the most. "From Time to Time" was directed by Jeff Blyth who had done previous CircleVision-movies (as 360°-movies are called) for Disneyland ("American Journeys") and Epcot ("Wonders of China", "Portraits of Canada"). The movie is starring Jeremy Irons as sci-fi writer H.G. Wells, Italian actor Franco Nero as Leonardo da Vinci as well as Gérard Depardieu as worker at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Jean Rochefort as Louis XV and Michel Piccoli as Jules Verne. The amazing finale with its computergenerated flight over the Paris of the year 2089 (which still looks fantastic although computer animation has developed a great deal the past few years) was created Rhythm & Hues Incorporated, which had also worked on other attractions for Walt Disney Imagineering (to learn more this company and its projects, visit their website). Most of the shots were done on location. For the under-sea sequence, the production team headed to the Bahamas. While the scene of the Paris Exposition of 1900 was actually shot at Vienna. By the way: at the Red Square-scene, look out for the famous Mickey Mouse baloon "Ear Force One". After its premiere at Disneyland Paris in 1992 "From Time to Time" was also brought to Tokyo Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, where it got a new score and two new voice-artists for Nine-Eye and Timekeeper: Rhea Pearlman of "Cheers" as the charming time traveller and comedian Robin Williams as our host of the show. But the Japanese Visionarium closed in 2002 and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger attraction was taking over the building. Originally this attraction was presented by Renault, the resort's official car sponsort from 1992 to 2002. When their sponsor ship contract ended, their logo was dropped off the facade of the building and a short film shown before the actual pre-show which featured the history of car making by Renault was taken out of service. Unfortunately the large scale modell of the flying "car" Reinastella that was on display in front of the entrance was removed too (you can still see it and the plaque in our photo selection on the right). Wells selber, sondern sie ist auch die "europäischste" aller Attraktionen im Park. Doch 2002 schloss das japanische Visionaroim, das Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Attraktion in das Gebäude einzog. Ursprünglich wurde diese Attraktion von Renault präsentiert, dem offiziellen Wagensponsor des Resorts von 1992 bis 2002. Als der Sponsorenvertrag auslief, wurde nicht nur das Renault-Logo von der Fassade entfernt, sondern auch der kurze Film, der vor der Preshow die Geschichte der Autoproduktion bei Renault demonstrierte. Leider fiel auch das großartige Modell des Reinastella, des fliegenden Wagens der Zukunft, das vor dem Eingang ausgestellt war, dieser Bereinigung zum Opfer (der Wagen und die Plakette sind noch in unserer Photosammlung rechts zu finden). Auf der anderen Seite sind sowohl das Renault Rennteam und der Reinastella noch im eigentlichen Film "From Time to Time" noch zu bewundern... |
