Luxury in the Wilderness

The Disneyland Resort Paris originally offered its own camping-site - a section of Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch (in the first years called "Camp Davy Crockett"). While its main feature always were fully equipped bungalows the ranch started out with extra 98 sites for tents, caravans and motor caravans on its property.

These camping slots were offered only through the reservation offices of the Disneyland Resort Paris but not through the partner agencies Europe-wide as the hotels are. Interestingly the site attracted mostly motor caravans. As these are also offered to stay over night on the main parking lot of the theme parks the occupancy of the camping site declined when the free shuttle busses connecting the Ranch with the theme parks were canceled. This in connection with the high demand for the bungalows of the Ranch led to the decision to close the camping site as of November 2002 and add additonal bungalows instead.

The generously sized camping sites were located around the Moccassin Trail right amid the forest that covers nearly the whole area of the Ranch and provides relieving shadow on the hot days of the summer. The Ranch consists of several trails, each of them a circular road located next to the main road connecting the entrance with each trail and the Ranch village. As the trails are separated by several meters of trees and bushes from the road which is used only for traffic inside the Ranch and arriving or departing guests there is no problem with noise and each guest has the unique feeling of staying right in a pristine natural surrounding.

The camp sites on the Moccassin Trail were located on both sites of the "trail" in a way that guests had a view of the lush surrounding forest instead of their "neighbour". Each of these sites offered a trashcan (designed to look like an old tree stump), electricity-, fresh- and used-water-connections (without surcharge), a picnic-table with two benches and a grill perfect for an breakfast or dinner out in the nature. Located centrally amid the trail was a building housing toilets, showers, and washing-machines, only a short walking distance from all camping sites. All sanitary facilities were cleaned regularly. Unfortunately the Moccassin Trail is the one trail that is the farest away from the central Ranch village with the general facilities as the pool, the animal zoo, playground, restaurant and shop, …. - still it is possible to bridge the distance with a short walk.

The guests of the camping-sites were treated to the same benefits as the guests staying in the bungalows of the Davy Crockett Ranch - that includes the hotel-guest-identity-card, with the possibility of an added credit-card-function, all hotel-guest benefits, e.g. free use of the tennis-courts and the pool at Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch and free parking at the main-parking-lot of the theme parks, which was important as the shuttle-bus between the Ranch and the theme parks (which are located around 15 minutes car-drive away from the ranch) was cancelled in the mid 90s.

The Davy Crockett camping site was rated in Europe's top category for its wonderful integration into the nature, its state of the art equipment of each site and the numerous leisure facilities in the village of the ranch, but as the sites had a concrete-ground in the front-area and a gravel-ground in the rear-area to prevent any problems during rainy days for heavy caravans and motor caravans it was not perfect suited for guests with tents.

Das Disneyland Resort Paris verfügte ursprünglich über einen eigenen Campingplatz - einen Abschnitt der Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch (in den ersten Jahren "Camp Davy Crockett" genannt). Hauptelement der Ranch waren immer Bungalows, zum Angebot gehörten ursprünglich aber 98 Plätze für Zelte, Wohnwagen und Wohnmobile.

Diese Plätze wurden lediglich durch die Reservierungszentrale des Resorts und anders als die Hotels nicht über die europäischen Partner angeboten. Genutzt wurde die Anlage hauptsächlich von Wohnmobilen, die allerdings auch auf dem Themenpark-Parkplatz übernachten können. Dieses Angebot und die Streichung der kostenloses Shuttlebusse zwischen der Ranch und den Themenparks führte zu einem Rückgang der Auslastung, so dass es dann im November 2002 zur endgültigen Schließung der Campinganlage kam, an deren Stelle nun weitere der stark nachgefragte Bungalows entstanden.

Die großzügig proportionierten Plätze befanden sich rund um den Moccassin Trail mitten im Waldgebiet, das den größten Teil der Fläche der Ranch bedeckt und an heißen Sommertagen für angenehmen Schatten sorgt. Die Ranch besteht auch mehreren Trails, bei denen es sich jeweils um einen Kreis formende Straßen handelt, die links und rechts der "Hauptstrasse" liegen, die die Trails mit dem Eingang und dem Dorf der Anlage verbindet. Da zwischen den Trails und der Straße aber mehrere Meter dichter Baum- und Buschbewuchs liegen und die Strasse im übrigen nur für den Verkehr der Ranch zugänglich ist, ergeben sich keinerlei Lärmbelästigung und alle Gäste können ihren Urlaub inmitten der Natur entspannt genießen.

Die einzelnen Plätz am Moccassin Train waren auf beiden Seiten des Trails derart angeordnet, dass die Gäste nicht auf ihre "Nachbarn", sondern in die reichhaltige Natur blickten. Jeder dieser Plätze verfügte über einen Abfalleimer (gestaltet wie ein alter Baumstumpf), Strom-, Frisch- und Abwasseranschlüsse (ohne Zusatzgebühren), einen Picknick-Tisch samt zwei Bänken sowie einen Grill, perfekt für ein Frühstück oder ein Dinner mitten in der Natur. Im Zentrum des Trails, nur wenige Schritte von allen Plätzen entfernt, befand sich ein Gebäude mit Toiletten, Duschen und Waschmaschinen - die Sanitäreinrichtungen wurden natürlich regelmäßig gereinigt. Leider aber gehört der Moccassin Trail zu den am weitesten vom Dorf der Ranch entfernten Anlagen. Dennoch kann die Entfernung zum Dorf mit den allgemeinen Einrichtungen der Ranch, wie dem Schwimmbad, dem Streichelzoo, Kinderspielplatz, Restaurant und Geschäft und vielem mehr, problemlos zu Fuß zurückgelegt werden.

Alle Gäste der Campingeinrichtung erhielten die selben Privilegien wie die in den Bungalows untergebrachten Gäste, z.B. den Hotel-Ausweis, mit der Möglichkeit einer Kreditkarten-Funktion, kostenlose Nutzung des Schwimmbads und der Tennisplätze, sowie kostenlose Nutzung des Themenpark-Parkplatzes, wobei letzteres besonders wichtig war, da die Ranch ungefähr 15 Minuten mit dem Auto von den Themenparks entfernt liegt, und der Shuttleverkehr Mitte der 90er eingestellt wurde.

Der Davy Crocket Campingplatz gehörte zur europäischen Topklasse dank seiner wunderbaren Integration in die natürlich Umgebung, seiner modernen Ausstattung jedes Platzes und der zahlreichen Einrichtungen des Dorfes, war aber für Zelte weniger ideal, da der vordere Teil der Stellplätze einen Betonboden und der hintere Abschnitt einen Kiesboden hatte, um bei Regen Probleme mit schwereren Wohnwagen oder Wohnmobilen zu vermeiden.
