Disney theme park in Europe - the idea has been around since the sucess
of the original Disneyland in Anaheim had taken the professional world
by surprise. But alas Walt Disney should not see the project move ahead
during his life time. In fact it should take much longer, till the 1980s
for the project to grow from a rough idea to an endevaor which the Walt
Disney Company actively pursued.
Unfortunately when the grand opening day came around the historians were
not able to turn the page to the "Happily ever after". While the guest
numbers of the Disneyland Park in the EuroDisney Resort met, even
exceeded expectations from day one, the financial planing proofed to be
less acurate. The result: the resort plunged head forward into a
prolonged financial crisis that actually still continues to shape the
resort.
But let's get not ahead of ourselves - as every good story this one is
best being told from the beginning...

überraschenden Erfolgs des Disneyland Parks in Anaheim immer wieder auf.
Doch Walt Disney sollte nicht mehr erleben, dass ernsthafte Schritte zur
Verwirklichung dieses Traumes unternommen wurden. Stattdessen dauerte es
bis in die 80er, bis die Walt Disney Company sich endlich ernsthaft an
die Umsetzung eines solchen Projektes machte.
Als der Tag der großen Eröffnung dann gekommen war, konnten die
Geschichtsschreiber leider nicht nur "Happily ever after" in ihre
Chroniken eintragen. Denn während die Besucherzahlen des Disneyland
Parks im EuroDisney Resort vom ersten Tag an die Erwartungen übertrafen,
erwies sich die finanzielle Planung als weniger akkurat. Die Folge: das
Resort rutschte in eine Finanzkrise, die bis heute noch die Entwicklung
prägt.
