Emporium

The biggest store inside the Disneyland Park, Emporium offers something for all Disney visitors. Take home a memory for yourself, a gift for the once that could not come along or a nice Disney decorations to show off once back at home.

Not the first shop to encounter when you enter the Disneyland Park, but surly the biggest and most popular one is the Emporium shop. The shop is the first one on Main Street itself, on the left side, just behind Town Square. The shop is hidden behind several different facades and has multiple entrances. Entrances are located in Town Square, Main Street U.S.A and the Liberty Arcade.

The inside of the shop is one big room where some distinguish is made in some areas of the shop. The front of the shop is the place where you'll find most of the Disney clothing and related items. At the far end of this section, next to one of the cash registers, there is also a small pin section with a glass cabinet on the wall showing of the newest and limited pins that are available in the shop. In the middle of the shop you'll find more of the Disney tidbits like mugs, drawing items, small toys, key chains and so on. The walls at the middle of the shop are mostly used to sell one themed range of items like the Pirates of the Caribbean.

At the back of the store there are two more areas. At the left hand side you'll find a lot of the Disney plush from the movie, but also some bigger toys from Pixar Movies. On the other side you'll find a room that is used to show of a lot of the Christmas items during the winter season

Specials

In the middle of the shop you can see a railing system attached to the ceiling. This system was used back in the 1900's to transport the money from the shop location to the accountants room. Back in the olden days staff wasn't allowed to handle the money and everything was done via this railing system. Imagine the waiting times back then! The railing System was designed for the Emporium store by Imagineer Eddie Sotto. The Paris version is inspired by photographs of the Abraham and Straus Department Store in New York.

Behind two of the cash registers inside the Emporium are drawing from the counterpart Emporium shops in both Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World Orlando. The Disneyland drawing shows the “Original Emporium Department Store” that opened in 1855. and the Florida one shows the store that opened in 1871. Both dates are set 100 years after their original opening to keep in the 1800's theme.

The shop features a beautiful glass dome in the front of the shop. On this glass dome you will find images of some of the most famous inventors in the world including Bell and Edison. Under the dome used to be a big circular cash register, but this has been removed and the location is now used for a circular display showing of some of the items sold in the shop.

At the back of the shop, next to Main Street at the corner opposite of Walt's, there used to be a separate room divided by walls. This small room was known as the Bixby Brothers shop. Officially, as of day one, part of the Emporium shop was always referred to as Bixby Brothers. The back story of this shop is that the Disney Bros. Took the shop over and integrated it into their Emporium. There always was a small door / entrance leading from Bixby Brothers into the Emporium but over time the walls of the Bixby Bros. room separating it from the Emporium were taken out. So while the name is still found on the facade outside it is nearly impossible to identify the boundary of this "shop in the shop" inside. Bixby Bros. Originally sold adult clothing, which became redundant once Main Street Motors took over this selection. There was also a baby clothing department of the Bixby Brothers. This shop was part of the Ribbons & Bows Hat shop, another shop found in Main Street. In fact there has always been a "Bixby Brothers" sign above the Ribbons & Bows Hat shop - since opening day. This was to imply that this shop was owned and operated by the same Bixby Brothers as the adult clothing store further up, that had become a part of the Emporium. If you look back at print materials from 1992 this Bixby Brothers sign at the Ribbons & Bows Hat shop was always part of the back story..
