 The Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups is the classic example of a standard fairground ride given that Disney twist. Here the "waltzer" style spinning ride becomes a giant tea tray, sitting upon it 18 large tea cups become the carriages, whilst the ride is operated by a castmember who stands behind a control box which bares more than a passing resemblance to a sugar bowl. Guests can even find the oversized tea-pot at nearby March Hare’s Refreshments.

Its theme is taken from Disney’s classic 1951 interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s "Alice in Wonderland", to be more exact from the Unbirthday-Party the March Hare and the Mad Hatter are celebrating.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups is now a standard in many theme parks around the world (even so the mouse in the tea pot is still unique - take a look at it at the "Did You Ever Notice"-page). The Disneyland Paris version is beautifully sheltered below an ornate glass roof pergola, which is illuminated at night with hundreds of tiny fairy lights transforming it into one of the areas most beautiful structures (a ride at night gets an added effect from this multicolored lights, one should try).

At the centre of each tea cup guests will find a turntable that will help to put that extra "spin" in the ride. By turning the table each teacup spins independently around therefor offering each guest the opportunity to control the speed of his cup. The only limit here is the muscle-power of the guests.
Surrounding the attraction beyond a small water beautifully manicured gardens are adorned with perfectly formed topiaries in all manner of shapes. An optical feast.

 Mad Hatter's Tea Cups ist ein klassisches Beispiel, wie eine gängige Kirmesattraktion dank einer Brise Disney-Magie etwas besonderes wird. Hier wurde die als "Walzer" bekannte Attraktion mit sich gegeneinander drehenden Wagen in ein gigantisches Tablett mit 18 Teetassen verwandelt, in denen die Fahrgäste Platz nehmen, während ein Castmember die Kontrollen hinter einer überdimensionalen Zuckerschale bedient. Sogar die passende überdimensionierte Teekanne findet sich bei March Hare’s Refreshments ganz in der Nähe.

Die Gestaltung der Attraktion beruht auf der Disney Interpretation von Lewis Carrolls "Alice im Wunderland" aus dem Jahre 1951, genauer auf der Nicht-Geburtstags-Party, die der Märzhase und der Verrückte Hutmacher feiern.
Mad Hatter's Tea Cups ist mittlerweile eine Standardattraktionen in vielen Freizeitparks weltweit (obwohl natürlich die Maus in der Teekanne noch immer ein Unikat ist - schauen sie doch einmal selbst nach unter "Did You Ever Notice"). Die Variante im Disneyland Paris befindet sich geschützt unter einer zauberhaften Glas-Kuppel, die nachts durch Dutzende Lampions erleuchtet wird und sich damit in eine der anmutigsten Konstruktionen im gesamten Bereich verwandelt (eine Fahrt in der Dunkelheit erhält durch die vielfarbige Beleuchtung einen besonderen Bonus, den man einmal genießen sollte).

Im Zentrum jeder Teetasse finden die Gäste ein großes Rad mittels dem der berühmte Extra-(Spaß)Wirbel erzeugt wird. Während der Fahrt kann durch das Drehen des Rades nämlich für jede Tasse einzeln noch eine zusätzliche Drehung in beliebiger Geschwindigkeit erzeugt werden. grenzen setzen hier nur die eigenen Muskelkräfte.

Jenseits eines kleinen Wasserlaufes ist die Attraktion von kunstvoll gestalteten Gärten umgeben, deren Büsche in den verschiedensten Formen gehalten werden. Ein optischer Genuss.

 Be warned the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups is a deceiving ride which looks innocent but has the real possibility of making it's riders feel quite ill.

Although the general turning of all the cups is felt as being gentle by most riders, add the frantic spinning of every cup on it's own and it is very easy to become queasy. So before riding make sure you want to spin the same speed as your fellow rides - otherwise you could find yourself in an out of control spinning nightmare at the hand of a spinning monster!

 Seien Sie gewarnt: Mad Hatter's Tea Cups ist eine trügerisch unschuldig wirkende Attraktion, hat es aber in sich.

Auch wenn die allgemeine Kreisbewegung der Tassen noch von den meisten Gästen als angenehm empfunden wird, kann die Drehung jeder einzelnen Tasse schnell dazu führen, dass einem schummerig wird. Also stellen sie vor der Fahrt sicher, dass ihre Begleiter die selben Vorstellungen in Bezug auf die Drehung der Tassen haben - sonst finden Sie sich schnell in einer wie verrückt wirbelnden Tasse wieder, völlig einem Drehmonster ausgeliefert!

 Walt Disney's relationship to "Alice in Wonderland" goes back to the 1920's, even before Mickey Mouse was conceived.

His "Alice in Cartoonland"-series opened the doors for Disney and his brother Roy to go to Hollywood and produce their cartoons from now on there.

"Alice in Cartoonland" was a series starring a little girl, that encountered a number of cartoon characters in her adventures.

The idea of doing a full-length "Alice in Wonderland"-feature came as early as 1933. Disney had planned once again to combine animation and a real-life actress for that movie. The popular young actress Mary Pickford did some test-screenings for the project, but it was never realised.

In the mid-40's, Disney resurrected his plans after he had seen how well the animated sequences went along with the rest of "Songs from the South". This time, Disney wanted Luana Patten (the little girl from "Songs from the South") to star in his picture. However, those plans were changed during the pre-production of "Alice in Wonderland" to an all-animated movie.

"Alice in Wonderland" opened in 1951 to mixed reviews and a disappointing box-office result, but its collection of unique characters and beautiful songs kept it fresh and memorable throughout the years.

 Walt Disneys Beziehung zu "Alice im Wunderland" geht bis in die 1920er Jahre zurück, als selbst an Micky Maus noch nicht zu denken war.

Seine "Alice in Cartoonland"-Serie öffnete ihm und seinem Bruder Roy den Weg nach Hollywood. In dieser Serie aus mehreren Cartoons traf ein kleines Mädchen bei ihren Abenteuern auf die verschiedensten Trickfiguren.

Die Idee zu einem "Alice im Wunderland"-Spielfilm kam dann 1933. Disney plante erneut Animation mit einer echten Schauspielerin zu verbinden. Die beliebte Jung-Schauspielerin Mary Pickford stand für einige Testaufnahmen vor der Kamera, doch das Projekt wurde nie verwirklicht.

Mitte der 40er Jahre holte Disney diese Pläne wieder hervor nachdem er gesehen hatte, wie gut sich die Trickfilmsequenzen in den Film "Onkel Remus' Wunderland" einfügten. Dieses mal sollte Luana Patten, die schon das kleine Mädchen in "Onkel Remus' Wunderland" gespielt hatte, die Hauptrolle in Disneys Film übernehmen. Doch während der Vorproduktion zu "Alice im Wunderland" wurden diese Pläne geändert und ein 100%iger Trickfilm wurde produziert.

"Alice im Wunderland" kam 1951 in die Kinos - begleitet von zurückhaltenden Kritiken und enttäuschenden Besucherzahlen. Jedoch halfen die einmaligen Figuren sowie die wundervollen Lieder diesen Film durch all die Jahre frisch zu bleiben und sich im Gedächtnis der Leute zu halten.

 Not recommended for guests with motion sickness. It is also saver not do to this ride right after a meal.

 Nicht empfohlen für Gäste, denen bei Drehbewegungen leicht übel wird. Sicherheitshalber sollte die Fahrt auch nicht direkt im Anschluss an eine Mahlzeit angetreten werden.
